I have discovered an unknown exe file in docs directory of revision 241 bins - Crysis_SP_demo.exe. I don't think this file should be there. Does anyone know what it is? Probably this have to be rebuild.

I have been using the 3.70 release for years, and I finally had a situation where it was taking five minutes to save a file on a Linux server using samba.  In desperation, I decided to try the latest 3.72 release.  To my surprise, the new version saves the same file in about ten seconds.  Yeah!  Thank you very much for providing this release!

I noticed that you have three downloads: portable zip, portable tar/bz2, and installer.  I am currently using the portable zip version.  Is there an advantage to using the installer version?  How is the portable zip version different than the installer?  What is the difference between the portable zip and the portable tar/bz2 versions?

Thanks!

Hello tacallah,
Thanks for nice words. The difference between portable and installer is that the portable one does not touch Windows registry and installed does. If you would like to put CE on a USB memory stick and use it on any Windows PC then portable is the way to go.
Thanks,

Thanks for the information!  So, it sounds like they are functionally the same.  If so, why have an installer version?  Is there an advantage for me to use the installer version?

Thanks again!

Yeah.. Also as far as I remember it will keep some of the settings if you upgrade from one revision to another. It adds itself to the explored context menu. Correct me if I'm wrong.

I'm going to go back through the bug tracker and review whether the bugs are still happening in r241 or not.

I've already been clearing out some of the bug tracker bugs, and I want the tracker to accurately depict where we are.

The difference between portable and installer is that the portable one does not touch Windows registry and installed does. If you would like to put CE on a USB memory stick and use it on any Windows PC then portable is the way to go.

Although you mentioned that, every time I need to run CE portable (revision 241) Windows Vista asks for permissions through its UAC.

Any clues why that it is happening? I have given myself full control on the folder, but UAC keeps popping up.

I am using Vista Ultimate SP1.

Thanks.

yes

I added that as if you want to add ce to the context menu it will fail.. I dont know howto/if you can wrap a single command in "RequireHighestAvailable" which meant I had to request permissions at ce start.

You ONLY get the prompt if you are an admin (ie someone who can request permissions) regular users under vista wont see that.

I updated the binaries to revision 256. I don't know how to update the SourceForge binaries; so they are only on the sticky post for now. If no one has any trouble with them, I'll contact the right people to find out if I can put the binaries on SourceForge.

Updated the binaries to revision 259. Thanks to tacallah for pointing out a bug in the 256 revision. This bug would have existed in the old .tar.bz revisions before 256, but nobody reported it.
