Ok Guys,
I'm willing to donate a mouse and the original CD of Win98 to the project. Please let me know if it's acceptable for anyone.
Thanks,
Pavel.

http://forum.emeraldeditor.com/index.php?topic=332.msg2202#msg2202

I've tried to build with msvc 6 earlier, on winxp.  Only one obstacle left, as you can see in that thread.

It's possible to use msvc with platform SDKs at least up to and including the February 2003 version (officially October 2002 is the last to support msvc 6, though).  To get those old versions you have to either pay M$ to send you a CD, or get it through eMule like I did.

I have no idea about the platform SDKs and win98 compatibility, though.  Just thought I'd dump some info here in case it helps. Smiley

can someone try getting the following:

Quote
Two dll files were needed: mfc42.dll msvcirt.dll *NOTE The version of mfc42.dll from dll-files.com is too old.

^^ these files are needed to run under wine.. but can someone try getting the latest versions of these files and running it under win98 and see if it still crashes

Is there any information about how old are the dll files mentioned above? Date/Size/hashsum? I still can go to my garage and check Win98 box.

Windows 98 support simply isn't a priority for most people. If it is desired strongly enough by someone, it appears that they will have to code it themselves. I think there are at least a few Windows API functions that are used that did not exist in Windows 98; so a simple recompile with old tools would probably not be sufficient.

Also, please do not advocate software piracy on the forums.
