I think negative feedback is the most helpful thing that could be. Without any constructive critique things cannot be done well. So, please keep on evaluating the icons and don't be coy Smiley I think we all want Emerald to be as close to perfection as possible. I'm not a professional logo designer, thus my designs can be somehow flawed and it's good for me to know the mistakes.

Now I've made some tiny ones and one new design. The big icons are obviously meant to be for the ObjectDock, Vista and perhaps Mac OS.

OK, now I'm starting to consider this. That last big one looks pretty nice. I was wondering if maybe it would be a little nicer if you could see ever so slightly the emerald in the back through the emerald in the front.

As for the small icons, I like 2 and 5 the best.

2 and 3 here. Not a huge fan of the cut off. I would also think the second e in the bigger one should be capitalized, but that's just me.

When I shrink them down to 16x16, I don't like 5 anymore, but 2 still looks nice. I was viewing at 48x48 when I made the last reply.

Edit: Then I blew it up to about 95x95 (or something close, used a program called pixel ruler to measure it on the screen). At that view 5 looks really nice and no number starts to look a little better. 2 looks worse only because the left side was no longer smooth.

When I have time I work on the tiny ones.

Now, an update on the big one:

oooooooooooo prettttyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy Tongue I'm not sure which I like best. I think the second overall, but I do really like the script E, though I don't think it would look great if you replaced the E's in emerald7 with scripts. By the way, emerald9, I don't quite like that the emerald isn't clear. It makes it look not pure...whatever the jeweler word for that is.

I'm really going to make it difficult now  Grin I like all three, but wouldn't it be a bit more realistic if the back emerald was more obscured when the face of the front emerald that you were looking through was not facing you? In other words, should the outline of the back emerald be harder to see near the tapering of the edges of the from emerald?

Also, another Idea I had was to put one of the 9's on its side and put two of the script E's along one of the emeralds.

actually i like number 9..

i think all that is missing is to place the scripted E onto the rear emerald as well.

9? I prefer 9b personally. Not a huge fan of the spiderwebby detail. but that's just me. But I do agree with the E on the back.

I think an E on the back emerald would be good too. I prefer 9 over 9b because 9b's front emerald seemed a bit too transparent.

But then, I've never seen an emerald before. How transparent are they in real life?

They are transparent when faceted. Here's an example.

 Grin Pretty

That's the best so far. My only new suggestion is maybe the E's should be a little different color like in version 9. But that looks really nice as it is.

I kinda like the color in 10b a little better, but 10's color is nice too.
