FYI,

I found this nifty windows program (freeware of course) thats great for renaming files.  Among a great many other things, it allows you to use search and replace on file names, drop the first x characters, drop the last x characters, etc...

ACDSEE views images.  IF you use it to rename you
a) highlight files
b) Press F2
c) this shows up
Name.of.image.file.whatever.you.had.#######

d) Then you simply put whatever common information you'd like and they're all renamed.
d1)  You can do this with entries that already have common names.  So if
Name.of.image.file.whatever.you.had.#######
is the name of 10 files you could name them all to
Name#####.jpg
where #### is what you popped in and .jpg is also what you popped in so ACDSEE knows it's an image.

This works on any files.

It is pretty cool to rename many files especially when researching and your names get to be too much.
Figure out something simple and batch rename.

Enjoy
