Several people have asked about having a hex editor feature as part of EE. Now, my feeling is that it probably should be available as a plugin rather than a core feature, but what does everyone else think?

(I did try and be serious with the poll but I couldn't help myself  Grin - I've been here at work since before 6am today and it's now 12.20pm and I'm going to be here for another 4 hours yet... darn phones and work Roll Eyes)

Have you seen XVI32.exe??  Its a basic hex editor.

I figure if you did have a hex editor mode it would simply set EE to be in column mode with a limited number of columns.  However, if you wanted more features specific to hex editing I'd say it belongs in a plugin.  The average user of EE, in my estimation, won't need it.

I don't think it should be core, but a plugin (maybe an official one) would be viable.

I ocassionally use a hex editor and when I do, like Feldon, I use XVI32. For the sake of convenience it might be useful to have one as a plugin.
